Collaboration, Value and Innovation

Cooper Cromar believe that we are strong and collaborative team players who bring added value and innovation to projects at all stages of the design and delivery process.

At their visionary Buchanan Wharf riverside development in Glasgow City Centre, Drum Property Group and their funding partner Legal & General brought us into their Team to technically deliver their high profile “Build To Rent” scheme for 324 homes which forms part of this significant and transformational urban regeneration project.

The Brief

Buchanan Wharf, Glasgow comprises of a major redevelopment of three city centre blocks on the south side of the River Clyde that have lain undeveloped for over 20 years.

The development involves significant investment in the City Centre and a unique opportunity to accommodate key business, residential and mixed-use requirements to the economic benefit of Glasgow.

On completion the Buchanan Wharf development will provide more than a million sqft of Grade ‘A’ office space, including a new campus for Barclays, over 300 new homes, together with a mix of local amenities and transformational infrastructure works and major public spaces.

Working with Drum Property Group, and their masterplanning design architects Stallan-Brand, our role has been to technically oversee the emerging building design from planning approval stage onwards through to the successful delivery and completion of the project. This role has also included working with concept interior designers in interpreting and delivering the interior concept for this new high profile project.

The Design Delivery

Building 5 of the development, now called 'Solasta Riverside', is located on the south eastern edge of the site, sitting adjacent to elevated railway lines leading to Glasgow Central Station and with stature and scale it acts as an urban marker for the development when seen from the city and also when arriving into the city by train.

Consisting of two 19 storey residential towers sitting on a commercial use and car parking podium, current design iterations include dining space, a gym, a residents’ lounge and extensive high level communal roof terraces.

Our technical delivery role has involved successfully delivering innovative solutions for the key project challenges such as building height, building aesthetic, mixed use requirements and construction methodology in close proximity to other elements of the Buchanan Wharf masterplan.
