The Aloft Hotel in Aberdeen is a new 150-bed home for contemporary, tech-savvy next-gen travellers. It’s packed with open-plan, urban chic design and a playful vibe and is located next to the new world class events and conference facility TECA (The Event Complex Aberdeen). As Aberdeen’s most switched on hotel, it represents a leap forward for the city, and combines vibrant interiors, great social and meeting spaces and hi-tech facilities.

Winner – Best New Hotel
Just opened, this is Aberdeen’s most switched-on hotel (or at least claims to be). It’s a looker, as you’d expect from parent company Marriott, and comes packed with open-plan, urban chic design and a playful vibe that’s clearly on show in the gym and at the pool table. It’s bang next door to new multi-million-pound venue P&J Live at The Event Complex, so expect late night revelry and gig-going fans in pre- and post-concert mood at craft cocktail bar W XYZ.

Sitting next to the Aberdeen’s new exhibition and conference centre, and a stone’s throw from the airport, the site came with certain physical and design constraints. We needed to give the hotel its own distinct identity yet complement the adjacent conference centre and a rigorous design process would be required to deliver a contemporary building solution to a budget. To match Aberdeen’s big ambitions for the future it was crucial that the design and delivery of the Aloft would live up to expectation.
The Design
It’s a testament to both our design ability and our rigorous approach that developers, council leaders and customers alike have celebrated this project. Thanks to our meticulous design process we were able to overcome the site’s constraints and stay on budget whilst delivering an outstanding building. Inside, the hotel has a youthful, urban style and has all the spaces and amenities that modern travellers are looking for. Outside, we’ve used highlight colours to add personality to a subtle palette, giving the building its own unique style without detracting from the wider aesthetic of the TECA development.
